§ 6.1. Meetings:

  • The Council shall meet no later than the second (2nd) Monday in January following each regular City election and shall hold at least two (2) regularly scheduled meetings each month for transaction of business, at such time and place within the City as it shall prescribe. All Council meetings shall comply with the Michigan Open Meetings Act (MCL 15.261 et seq., MSA 4.1800(11) et seq.). Special meetings shall be held at the regular meeting place of the Council, unless otherwise prescribed. Special meetings shall be called by the City Clerk on the written request of the Mayor or any two (2) elected Council Members. Public notice of special meetings shall be given in accordance with the Michigan Open Meetings Act (MCL 15.261 et seq., MSA 4.1800(11) et seq.). Notice or written notice may be left at the council member's residence or regular place of business by the Clerk or someone designated by the Clerk. Such notice shall be delivered at least eighteen (18) hours prior to said meeting. Business to be conducted at a special meeting shall be limited to the business indicated in the request and included in the notice of such a meeting.

    A majority of the Council shall be a quorum for the transaction of business unless a greater number is required by law. In the absence of a quorum, a number less than a quorum may adjourn a meeting to a later date.
